Interaction with Farmers’ Producer Organizations (FPOs) of West Garo Hills
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Garo Hills organized FPOs meet in collaboration with NABARD, West Garo Hills in Bamunpara village, Dalu Block, West Garo Hills district and Garagre village, Zikzak Block, South West Garo Hills, Meghalaya on 18th Dec 2018 and 19th Dec 2018 respectively. NABARD, West Garo Hills financed BAKDIL, an NGO to form four numbers FPOs in both the districts; West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills of Meghalaya: two FPOs in Dalu block, one FPO in Dadengre block and one FPO in Zikazak block. All these FPOs are doing activities on value addition like production of turmeric powder, chilli powder, pickles, james and juices and livestock and poultry farming. Recently, BAKDIL has established 54 piggery and 33 poultry units under these FPOs with the help of National Livestock Mission. KVK, West Garo Hills always provide technical support on different activities for the members of theses FPOs. NABARD, West Garo Hills invited KVK personnel to interact with the members to get the feedback from them during the FPOs meet and decision was taken to conduct demonstration on “Tapioca Feeding in Pigs” for pig owners with the help of KVK. Members of the “Mikasal FPO”, Zikzak block were also taken to the Mondakini Hajong’s place (a progressive farmer of KVK, West Garo Hils) to visit her goatery (Sirohi goats) and poultry (Vanaraja) units.
